A 50-kilometre winter ultramarathon featuring 1000 metres of elevation on beautifully groomed snow trails throughout Kimberley, British Columbia. Run anytime during the month of February.
The Dead of Winter Ultramarathon celebrates the rugged beauty and relentless snowfall of the East Kootenays. Athletes follow snowmobile-groomed singletrack through the Louis Creek and Kimberley Nature Park trail systems. Choose your own day — or several — and complete the 50 km challenge anytime in February.
This format gives runners flexibility for weather, travel and recovery, while still offering proper rankings and recognition for those who complete the full 50 km route.

Surface: Fully snow-groomed trail network (no Nordic centre sections)

Pricing below applies to the Dead of Winter Ultramarathon (50 km). The Dead of Winter Challenge is free to enter. All prices are in Canadian dollars and based on Kimberley, BC time.

Is the course marked?
You’ll receive a GPX file and route description. Trails follow established groomed winter routes.
Can I run it multiple days?
Yes. You may attempt the route as many times as you like within February, but only your best time will be ranked.
Do I have to start at a specific time?
No. Choose the day and start time that works best for you within the event window.
How do I submit my result?
Upload your activity to your GPS platform of choice (e.g. Strava) and follow the instructions you’ll receive by email for submitting your official time.
